Number of particpants: 8 students maximum, 4 students minimum.

Class Description: The first day will be introduced the technique and choosing and preparing the frits and stringers of glass that we will use for the realization of the class projects to obtain the best possible definition of the images. Then, beginning with a winter woodland image chosen by Miriam, the student will learn to “translate” a landscape image into glass with “ Depth”. The instructor will demonstrate the basic process used in creating her pieces. Bullseye sheet glass and frit will be used in a layering process to create the landscape. Vitrograph stringers will be made, worked with a torch and used in the piece. The student will follow the process step by step to get the entire image translated into a flat glass piece with depth and an extremely realistic effect. A second image will be chosen by the group from photos provided by the instructor. Both pieces should be complete by the end of the course.

Miriam Di Fiore - "Drawer for my Fifty Years"

Extreme Controlled Images
and Depth in Fused Glass

Advanced Miriam Di Fiore Technique

Instructor: Miriam Di Fiore

Requirements: This course is directed to students with advanced experience in fusing glass, having had already some experiences with this technique or already be on the road of "landscape" in glass ( have a good knowledge of techniques for fusing applied to the creation of landscapes or be experts in the control of images, with frits and stringers).
Cost : 1.150 Euro (includes all materials and midday meals during the class )
Language: English, Italian and Spanish

Date: August 18th (Wednesday) to August 26 (Thursday).
Hours: Wednesday to Saturday and Monday to Thursday
from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 18:30
Sunday: rest
Total hours: 64
Number of participants: 8 students maximum, 4 students minimum

Class Description: Using the “Di Fiore technique”, the student will learn a variety of methods necessary to accomplish different effects within a “complex landscape”. Some images require a combination of different processes to be translated into glass and could be very difficult.
The instructor will choose the image for the first project. Bullseye glass and frits will be used in a layering process to create the landscapes. Vitrograph stringers will be made, worked with a torch and used in the piece. The student will follow the process step by step to get the entire image translated into a flat glass piece with depth and an extremely realistic effect. For the second project, students can choose from a variety of images presented by the teacher or use a photo or paint or their own image if it is compatible with the materials and the degree of difficulty, in the opinion of the teacher, will be sustainable for the student.
The goal is to deepen the capacity to control the images and also apply the technique to any type of image. Both projects should be complete by the end of the class.

Miriam Di Fiore - "Hope"

Advanced Fusing Techniques and Light Painting
with introduction to high thickness and Pate de Verre

Instructor: Miriam Di Fiore

Requirements: Basic knowledge and experience in glass fusing required.
Cost: 1.150 Euro (includes all materials and midday meals during the class time)
Language: Italian, English and Spanish

Date: August 4 (Wednesday), to August 12 (Thursday)
Hours: Wednesday to Saturday and Monday to Thursday

Sunday: rest
Total hours: 64
Number of participans: 8 students maximum, 4 students minimum

Class Description: To think in fusing “without limits” During this very intensive class, the students will explore the ways to get special effects with glass fusing to create new and surprising results. The “opening-kiln processes” which includes glass combings and the free-flowing oblique plane technique will be demonstrated. Creating spirals and marble effects during the firing process, and creating pre-fusion patterns will also be included. The resulting components could be used in fusing or used as inclusions in high thickness pieces. Also increase your knowledge of the world of frits perfecting the technique of "light painting".
This class introduces also the fantastic world of Pâté de Verre techniques to the students. During this class the students will make one project for an “open mold”, using clay for the model and one piece using the basic Pate de verre “lost wax” technique, making a silicone rubber form and silica plaster mold. We will explore the process to get very thin fine fused pieces (less than 2 millimetres) using the glass powder and the technique of "Frost and fuse", extraordinary process very simple as a small three-dimensional objects in glass without the use of mould but using silicone pattern, water and a freezer!
Basic cold working techniques will be demonstrated. (Hand and machines process to cold working).

The great artist Narcissus Quagliata, called the technique that he created to translate his fantastic drawings and watercolours in glass Using frits, glass powder and glass stringers, you can create images, highly controlled, fascinating and unique, as if we were using the glass as a painter uses the pure colours.
During this class, we will learn how to use tested compatible glass frits, the particularity of each colour available, the problems concerning the reactions when we mix colours, the correct firing schedules. Choosing
at least three images of different types selected from a photography (a human face, a detail of a painting both classic or abstract, pictures of flowers and landscapes), we will translate them in fusing , using from one to four firings to obtain the highest technical and aesthetic quality and discover the endless possibilities. The goal is to increase the knowledge in the translation into fused glass of several different kinds of images.

From the small universe of glass Jewellery to the creation of panels to be inserted into doors and windows, from small decorative object to the fantastic design pieces, from the wall tiles to sculpture, everything is possible with the fusing.
During the course, students will learn all the basic procedures of the technique: For those who do not already know, of course you will learn glass cutting. You'll see the types of glass used, insulation materials, support and moulding, the kind of kilns and firing controllers, the firing schedules suitable for every kind of product. The use of instruments of quality control (polarized films or stressometer).
We will do many and varied exercises: A project using common glass and metallic elements (copper, brass, gold liquid). A project using coloured glass sheets (fused mosaic). A tile with the technique of “reversal mosaic”, a tile with the technique of "light-painting" and with more technical complexity, a plate and a cup fused and slumped.
